Object Ontology: Magnetic Fields

Our first weekend of working with Mitey and Titey has yielded some exciting results and also many things that still need to be ironed out. Using the robots rather than our hands allow for more precise and recorded movements, in addition the strength of the robotic arm allows for a great deal of pull force from the magnets. When caring out the process it easy to make the assumption that you know how the project outcome will look asthetically, however as the process becomes more clear the resulting object is far from what you expected and in many cases better.

The use of resin, clay, iron powder, and iron filling has proven to be a potent mixture. The resin hardens in about one hour but gives the model a gloss but plastic look when it is infact very hard and rigid. The process of pouring material allowing the magentic field to determine the growth of the mixture is excting. You trully have no cue what's going to happen.

The next phase for us is to get the model to atleast 3 to 4 feet height, here the material would almost become something like a magnetic column. I wonder how much weight it can hold, provided the process derives a object llike column.
